The Spiritual Awakening Map Nobody Told Me About

I'm writing this from a tender place this week.

As many of you already know, a devastating earthquake struck my home country Venezuela yesterday. The place where I was born, where my family still lives, where so many people I love are trying to make sense of what just happened. My immediate family is safe. And I want to say thank you to the many of you who reached out, emails, messages, calls, asking how I was, how my family was doing. That kind of care means more than I can say.

The country is in pain. And even from here in Granada, I feel it. One of the things I've come to understand about this path is that you don't become less sensitive as you grow. You become more sensitive. The capacity to feel your own pain, once developed, becomes the capacity to hold other people's pain too. And while that is one of the most beautiful things about this journey, it is also one of the most demanding. This week's video speaks directly to that.

The Four Stages of Heart Mastery: Where Are You on the Journey?

In this week's video, I share something I have been developing quietly for twenty years. A map. An actual framework that shows you the four stages every heart moves through on its journey from closed to fully open. The Hermit. The Initiate. The Warrior. The Leader. Each one with its own landscape, its own gifts, and its own particular way of trying to pull you off course.

I made this video because I have watched too many people suffer unnecessarily on this path. Not because the journey is supposed to be easy, but because they had no framework for what was happening to them. And when you have no map, every stage of the journey feels like a crisis. Every descent feels like failure. Every fire feels like a mistake. It isn't. But without a map, you have no way of knowing that.

What this video will give you is clarity. Whether you are just beginning to feel something stirring inside you, or you are deep in the fire right now wondering if you made a mistake by opening up, or you have been doing this work for years and you sense you are standing at the threshold of something new. You will leave this video knowing exactly where you are. What your current stage is asking of you. What its gifts are. And what your next step looks like.


When Feeling More Becomes Your Superpower

Years ago, I came across the work of Tej Steiner, a teacher whose approach to inner work I deeply respect. One of his twenty core practices was this: feeling emotional pain. I remember reading that and thinking, what kind of masochist would teach this? Why would you deliberately practice feeling pain? I didn't understand yet. But that question stayed with me quietly for years, until my own heart cracked open and I finally got the answer from the inside.

The grief started coming. Not just grief for what had happened to me, but grief for everything I had quietly put aside. The youth I felt I had lost. The friends I had left behind when I moved countries. The version of life I had imagined and never lived. I went into it. I stayed with it. I came out the other side not without scars, but with something new. A softness. A kind of strength I hadn't had before. And I started feeling other people's pain more. Not in an overwhelming way, at least not once I had the tools. But in a way that was real and present. When a client would share something difficult, something in me was actually with them. Holding what they were holding.

I used to think that as you grew emotionally and spiritually, you would eventually reach a place where the pain didn't touch you as much. What I found was almost the opposite. What was growing wasn't distance from pain, it was capacity for it. I have a saying I return to often: a broken heart is a heart that is ready to love more. Every time you allow yourself to really feel, to not look away, to stay with the weight of something until it begins to move, you are not weakening. You are expanding.

At first, feeling this much can feel like a burden. Like the world's pain is going to swallow you whole. But when you learn to hold emotional pain with compassion, something shifts. You stop being overwhelmed by it and you start being a container for it. And that capacity is not just emotional. It is electromagnetic. The heart generates a field that extends far beyond the body, and as that field becomes grounded in genuine compassion and unconditional love, it carries something real that other people feel.

Your heart's signature becomes strong enough to hold not just your own pain, but the pain of those around you. David Hawkins taught that for every person who moves into an unconditional, compassionate state of being, the negativity of approximately seven hundred and fifty thousand people in the world is offset. Not through effort. Through presence.


This Weekend's Practice: Being with Emotional Pain

When something breaks your heart, whether it is your own grief or the suffering of people you love, or the collective pain of an entire country, the instinct is often to either push it away or be swept away by it completely. This practice offers a third way. A way of being fully present with pain while remaining grounded inside yourself.

Four steps:

1. Tune in and witness. Place your hand on your heart and simply turn your attention inward. Without trying to change anything, begin to witness what is here. The discomfort. The heaviness. The grief or the compassion or whatever is present. You are not trying to fix it or understand it. You are simply becoming the observer of your own inner experience, creating just enough space between you and the feeling to breathe.

2. Breathe through the heart and find neutral. Begin to breathe slowly and evenly through the heart space. Five seconds in, five seconds out. This is the HeartMath Neutral step. Not trying to feel better, not suppressing what is here, simply creating internal room. With each breath, let the nervous system settle a little. You are not pushing the pain away. You are creating enough space around it to be fully present with it without being overwhelmed.

3. Allow it to move through you. Now, give yourself permission to fully feel whatever is here. This is the letting go practice. Not analyzing it, not making it mean something, just allowing the raw sensation of the emotion to be fully present in your body until it begins to move and shift on its own. You are not the wave. You are the ocean. And the wave will pass.

4. Activate gratitude and compassion. As the feeling begins to soften and release, gently invite a sense of gratitude and compassion. First for yourself, for your willingness to stay present with what is real. Then let it expand outward, to the people you are holding in your heart, to those who are suffering, to the wider world. You don't need to fix anything. Your open, compassionate presence is enough.

Stay for as long as feels right, letting gratitude and compassion be the last emotional note you leave yourself with.

One Last Thing...

This week has reminded me, more than anything, that the capacity to feel yours or other people's pain is not a weakness. It is a form of strength that develops slowly, through all the cycles of grief and fire and healing that the heart moves through. Every time you choose to stay present with what is real, yours and others', you are building both emotional and spiritual resilience. You're also becoming a more compassionate.
